Your customers are on your website. When does an app pay off?

You already have traffic, customer accounts and people who buy from you again. An app will not create that. It can make it stronger, if your business shows the right signals. Here is how to tell, and what it takes when it does.

Many companies we speak with are in the same place. The website works. Customers sign in, order and come back. Then someone in a meeting asks: should we have an app?

It is a fair question, and the honest answer is: not always. An app costs money to build and to keep up to date. It pays off when it brings repeat customers back more easily than the website can.

Five signals an app will pay off

  • Customers return weekly or monthly. Orders, bookings, refills, visits. The app saves them steps every single time.
  • You run a loyalty programme, or want one. Points and rewards live better in a phone than on a plastic card.
  • Timing matters. A push notification at the right moment does what an email no longer does.
  • Things happen on the spot. At a counter, a station or in the field, with a camera, a scanner or a weak signal.
  • Customers already ask for it. Support tickets and store reviews tell you this before any survey does.

If none of these fit, invest in the website first. If two or three do, an app is worth a proper look.

When an app is the wrong answer

One-off purchases, rare visits and content people read once are better served by a fast website. An app that only repeats your site in a frame will also struggle in review, because Apple rejects apps that are little more than a website.

If the app has no job of its own, do not build it yet. A good test: write one sentence about what a customer does in the app that they cannot do as well on the website. If you cannot write that sentence, wait.

How to check it in a week

You do not need a study. Look at three things you already know: how many customers buy from you more than once a month, how many of them sign in from a phone, and how often support hears "do you have an app?".

If the first two are high, the app has a job. Bring those numbers to Prototype to Plan, and we turn them into the key screens.

A real example: Pieprzyk

Pieprzyk runs a network of fuel stations with its own stock and POS systems, but it had no app. We built a loyalty app, a management panel and a backend linked to their stock and POS.

It has been live at their stations since 2023, and we still improve it together.

"The app smoothly integrates with our existing systems, ensuring seamless operation."

Your systems stay

The biggest worry we hear from companies is a second system to run. That is not how we build. The app uses your existing backend and customer accounts through an API, and we add only what is missing. If there is no API yet, we build a thin one on top of what you have.

Your data stays where it is today. If you have your own developers, they keep the backend and we build the app against it.

On the business side, it works like any other supplier you already have:

  • A contract and an NDA before you share any details.
  • An invoice per accepted milestone, from Codigee sp. z o.o., in USD, EUR or PLN.
  • Documentation and a handover your own team can work from.
  • Slack, WhatsApp or email, plus a weekly report.

What it costs

Step 1 is Prototype to Plan: $5k, 1-2 weeks, and 100% credited to the build. You get the key screens designed and a fixed price for each milestone.

The build is App Launch: from $15k, typically $15-50k, in 8-12 weeks. Links to your systems and an admin panel you can talk to (MCP) are included. After launch, Care keeps the app up to date from $2k a month, and every app we build comes with a 6-month guarantee.

Why it does not take a year

We build with AI because it makes us faster: many directions for the key screens, a clickable prototype in the first two weeks, a new build on your phone every week. Codigee experts review every line, so the speed never shows up as bugs in front of your customers.

That is how a full app on your own systems fits in about three months, not a year.
